Obituary for Harvey Golomb

Harvey Golomb crossed the finish line of his most important endurance race of 77 years on May 9, 2023, surrounded by loving family in Longmont, Colorado. He endured a battle with Lewy Body Dementia and Parkinson’s.

Harvey loved his family more than anything and took interest in everything everyone else loved. He was devoted to his wife, was a big brother to his sisters, and great role model to his son and stepsons. Harvey always looked forward to the numerous annual family ski trips and excursions to the Outer Banks, or just simple gatherings with relatives. He especially enjoyed watching grandchildren in their various sports and activities, as well as supporting all endeavors anyone was undertaking. Harvey had a special interest in his family history. He researched and compiled a book, The Hankin Family – Journeys to America. He loved taking pictures and was one of the first with a digital camera which every shot seemed to include a family member or close friend.

After graduating early from Western High School, Harvey received degrees from MIT and Harvard Business School and proudly served in the Army. He had a passion for technology and innovation, with Apple and Tesla being some of his favorites. Harvey was a visionary and a successful entrepreneur with many of his ventures being ahead of their time. He valued his time with his fraternity brothers both in Boston and on their regular ski trips. Harvey recently completed an autobiography of his professional career.

Harvey’s other passion was running, which he took up in the 1970s. This evolved into triathlons. He was always interested in new technologies for improving his tri-bike. Over the years he finished four full Iron Man Triathlons in Lake Placid and Boulder. In addition, Harvey completed over a hundred triathlons and countless other marathons and running races. He would go for a run every day if he could. However, crispy bacon along with fried chicken, Oreo ice cream and Diet Coke would be the staple of life for Harvey if possible.

“Swim, Bike, Run, Finish” was Harvey’s moto both literally and figuratively.
