Obituary for Judith Ann Neher

Judith Ann Plested Neher (Judy) was born September 3, 1941 in Wichita, Kansas to William and Flora Plested. She adored her older big brother, William Plested III, and the family enjoyed traveling from Kansas to the beautiful state of Colorado during the summer to spend time outdoors fishing and hunting. As a senior in high school, she was very proud to be the lead editor of the yearbook. She was a very skilled writer and was proud of her knowledge of grammar. She didn’t hesitate to correct the grammar of those very close to her!

At the age of 17 she left Wichita and started her freshman year at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Shortly after, she became a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority which she stayed actively involved in for many years. She was especially proud when her granddaughter Katy, pledged Kappa at CU and Judy had the opportunity to give Katy the Kappa pin that she had received back in 1959.

It was at CU that she was introduced to a handsome upperclassman, James Neher (Jim) that would become the love of her life. Judy graduated from CU, Summa Cum Laude, with a degree in International Relations.

Judy wasn’t afraid of challenges, so when she graduated college she became a stewardess for World Airways that took her to destinations all over the globe. During that time, Jim became an officer in the Navy. They did their best to stay in contact, but they were both very busy. Thankfully, they found their way back to each other and married February 26, 1966. They made a home in Mill Valley, California and welcomed their first daughter Shelley in 1968, and a second daughter Noelle in 1972.

As a family, they made the decision to return to Boulder in 1974. Jim was a State Farm Agent and Judy was his full-time secretary. They built a strong and thriving business with many loyal clients. While the girls were growing up, the family spent time enjoying waterskiing and camping. Grand Lake was always a very special place for them, and in 1990 they built a beautiful cabin for friends and family to enjoy. Over the years, Judy volunteered her time as a Girl Scout leader, a health room para, and eventually a trainer of health room paras for the Boulder Valley School District.

Judy was a beloved “Grammie” to her four grandchildren Katy Humble (23), Caleb Humble (22), Sydney Perrin (17) and Griffin Perrin (15). The entire family had the opportunity to travel to Kauai several times and have memories that will last a lifetime.

Judy passed away peacefully on June 24, 2022. She is survived by her husband Jim, her two children Shelley Neher of Longmont, Colorado and Noelle Neher Perrin (Jason Perrin) of Newport Beach, California and her four grandchildren.

Judy had many dogs during her lifetime, but her most treasured was her Bichon, Tucker. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Boulder Humane Society in her name.

A private reception was held shortly after her passing on July 1, 2022.
